.

As well as preventative servicing, Mr. Transit will quickly diagnose your engine issues, then make all repairs necessary to give you a solid reliable engine running like new.

Transit Engine Rebuilds

The most common cause of engine failure is 'Wet Belt' degradation resulting in catastrophic engine failure. In general, failures include damaged or worn turbos, and more seriously. a blown head gasket or damaged valves that require the engine to be rebuilt, including Engine machining to ensure maximum quality and performance.

Wet Belt Servicing & Replacements

Wet belt failure damage can be very severe, so if you are at all uncertain about your wet belt's condition, we strongly advise you contact us to get it looked at sooner rather than later.

A Common Wet Belt Issue

With the timing belt being constantly submerged in oil, unfortunately means that the rubber the belt is made from, degrades much quicker than traditional 'Dry Belt' set ups, with the belt outside of the engine. Over time, the belt begins to lose integrity due to the degradation and eventually, teeth will begin to crumble away. This has two rather serious and obvious downsides, the first of which is the rubber doesn't just disappear, it finds its way around your engine, blocking oilways and getting into places it shouldn't be, but even more devastatingly, if your engine keeps ticking without 'running dry' for long enough, enough teeth will be stripped that the belt slips on the cam or crank drive gears and you end up with catastrophic engine failure.

Turbo's Renewed/Replaced

Often caused by the aforementioned wet belt issue, the bearings in the turbo will not get enough oil, they will begin to wear away and the tolerances with it, causing the shaft of the turbo to 'wobble' in place and this then causes the impellar blades to 'rub' on the sides of the turbo. This obviously creates metal shards, which can get sucked into your intake and pushed into your cylinders, but also the turbo ends up toast. We have the ability to get turbos refurbished for you as part of the build, or replaced entirely.

Blown Head Gasket

Head gaskets 'blow' for all sorts of reasons, lack of oil flow causing the engine temperature to increase, coolant leaks, causing the engine temperature to increase, water pump failure... you get the idea. Head gaskets can also 'blow' due to shards of metal from a damaged turbo, making their way into the cylinder and bouncing around inside with every engine rotation, or from a fuel injector seizing open/shut and causing the mixture in the cylinder to be too lean/rich.

Damaged Valves

Usually caused by the 'Wet Belt' issue, when the cam and crank gears are no longer being turned at the correct 'timing', there is a high risk of valves being pushed open when they should be closed and meeting the piston as it comes to the top of its stroke. This then bends the valves and/or breaks the mounts holding them in place.

Engine Machining

When rebuilding engines, it's important to have all the parts properly machined, to ensure maximum sealing and performance when the engine is put back together. We use a single, specific engineering company, that we trust implicitly, to machine all of our engine components for us. This allows us to ensure consistency and quality in our rebuilds.

Wet Belt Service & Replacement

As great as Transits are, the latest generations have one fatal flaw in their design... the 'Wet Belt'. This is the 'Timing Belt', 'Cam Belt' or 'Drive Belt' as it is sometimes known. It's exactly the same as 99% of Timing Belts out there, only instead of sitting it outside the engine, where 99% of other Timing Belts sit, Ford decided in their wisdom, to sit this one inside the engine... this means, it gets covered in oil, all day, every day, constantly and this very fact, shortens the life of the belt, increasing the chance of a snapped, or stripped belt, which leads to catastrophic engine failure.

There have been some limited improvements to the belts in more recent years, with more oil resistant compounds and we ensure that we use those newer belts when rebuilding your Transit engine.

Prevention is the key, so if you are in any way unsure of the condition of your timing belt/wet belt, then it's strongly recommended that you contact Mr. Transit now to get it looked at.
